Self Initiated Project

Write your own brief...

Illustrate 4-5 editorials from 'New Scientist'

and I did here are a few finished images....

Nun's on the Run
An article about nuns living long an
d healthy lives with no signs of
dementia or serve old age, apparently due to their religious
and non-materialistic life styles.

I prefer the red version. The colour pallet used in the darker version seems a little too harsh for the subject matter. The pieces hold together well as images but I don't think they communicate the message amazingly well.

Fly me to the Moon

This article was about a 'space ship' readily
(not really, these crafts cost over £100,000)
available and affordable
for the average Joe.
In other words a DIY space ship.
The craft was dubbed the 'space cub'.

Well these are some of my favorite images from this brief,
but of course the
blog! says they are corrupt
so ill try and get them up soon...

From the Koran to Quantum Physics
An article about science within religion.

How the two, work together, or against each other.

This image works for me in two ways, the yellow is eye catching and coupled with the other elements within this image creates interest, the o
ther is the way I feel I have kept a little naivety and charm even with the Mosque which was created on illustrator. The dodgy lines are dodgy i do admit.
But the concept and the pallet have been translated into an image that I am pretty happy with.
I'm quite proud of myself
because as up to this point colour scared me like Des Lynam in Lycra!

End of the Beginning
Quite a long article about the questions being raised over
'The Big Bang Theory'
and how they have discovered
new factors to take into account about the begin
ing of
our universe.

The composition in these images hold them together. I think beginning to put my work into context (i.e posters, book covers etc) will encourage my design to communicate more effectively.
As I am only using a select amount of images, the purpose and of the elements has to be pretty much spot on. continuing to evolve 2 or 3 concepts at a time gives the final imagery a little more integrity as i feel a little more involved with my design working in this way.

P.S I LOVE MY COLOUR PALLET
